How Much Does a Human Skeleton Model Cost in India? Prices for Students in 2026

By XBONZ ·

Every batch of first-year medical, dental, nursing and physiotherapy students asks the same question in the first month: how much is a bone set, and is it worth it? Here are the prices for the main items, what drives them, and the questions to ask before you pay.

What changes the price of a bone set

  • Full or half. A full set has roughly twice the paired bones, so it costs more and weighs more.
  • Whether the skull opens. A 3-part skull costs more to make than a closed one, and is worth it: the inside of the cranial base is where head-and-neck questions come from.
  • Separate vertebrae. Loose vertebrae cost more than a fused column, and are what spotters test.
  • Finish and detail. Clear foramina, grooves and tuberosities take more work in the mould than a smooth bone.
  • Seller. Buying from the maker, as with XBONZ in Ahmedabad, removes the distributor and shop margins that a local medical store adds.

Second-hand bone sets: what to check

Sets passed down from seniors are common and often fine. Check that no bones are missing (count the ribs and vertebrae, and look for both patellae in a full set), that small bones such as the carpals are present, that the skull opens and the mandible is there, and that nothing has been painted over so that landmarks are lost. A full set bought new for ₹11,500 and shared by three students comes to under ₹4,000 each, which is often cheaper than a used set of uncertain completeness.

Is a bone set worth the money?

Osteology is the part of anatomy that is examined the same way in every college: a bone in your hand and a viva. Students who have handled the bones at home do better in it, and the set keeps its value through all of first year and into orthopaedics and physiotherapy later. If the budget is tight, the unilateral set plus a dissection kit and an apron covers everything first year asks for. See the first-year essentials checklist and unilateral vs bilateral.
