Anatomy Bone Set in the UK: A Buying Guide for Medical, Physiotherapy and Osteopathy Students

By XBONZ ·

UK medical schools teach anatomy through a mix of prosections, imaging, living anatomy and, in some schools, dissection. What the spotter and OSCE stations still test is whether you can pick up a bone, name it, give its side and point to its landmarks. A disarticulated bone set is the cheapest way to practise that at home. This guide is for medical, dental, physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic and sports therapy students in the UK.

Full or half set?

  • A full (bilateral) set has every bone, left and right, plus the skull and the whole vertebral column. Best for comparing sides, for sharing in a flat or study group, and for teaching.
  • A half (unilateral) set has one side of the paired bones plus all the midline bones and the skull. Best as a personal set: lighter, cheaper and enough for identification and landmarks.

What UK courses tend to ask

  • Medicine and dentistry: bone identification and side, surface landmarks, attachments of the major muscles, and the nerve or vessel at risk in common fractures.
  • Physiotherapy and sports therapy: palpable landmarks, joint surfaces and attachments, since these are what you examine on a patient.
  • Osteopathy and chiropractic: the vertebral column in detail, including the features that separate cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, and the pelvis.

A half set covers all of this. A full set adds the left-right comparison that makes side determination quick.

Before you order

  1. Check that the bones are life size and the vertebrae are separate, not fused into a column.
  2. Check that the skull opens: a 3-part skull shows the cranial base, which closed skulls do not.
  3. Look for clear landmarks in the product photographs.
  4. Make sure the set comes in a box or case.
  5. Read the delivery terms for the UK, including any duty on arrival.

What XBONZ ships to the UK

XBONZ makes its models in Ahmedabad, India, and ships them to the United Kingdom. Prices appear in pounds when you browse from the UK:

Each full and half set includes a year of the XBONZ Anatomy Lab, an online 3D atlas with notes and exam practice (£39.99 a year on its own). Checkout is billed in Indian rupees at the same value, which your card converts. Shipping and the estimated delivery date are shown at checkout; any import duty or VAT charged on delivery is not included in the price.

Using the set well

Learn one region a week with the bones in your hand and your course notes open, and describe every bone in the same order: identify, side, anatomical position, features, attachments, one clinical point. Our guides on identifying any bone, telling the vertebrae apart and side determination are written for exactly this.
